The Process

How are we going to create an EcoDistrict?

For the next 18-24 months, we will be conducting a NYSERDA funded planning study. At the end of this time, we will have a roadmap for the EcoDistrict outlining our baseline metrics, our long and short term goals, anticipated projects, financial plan and governance structure. During the planning process, we will begin having events to raise awareness and gain support for the project.

The EcoDistrict timeline can be broken down into three phases:

  • Formation: During the formation phase we establish: who is involved in the planning process, who are the EcoDistrict stakeholders, the boundary, name, mission and vision.
  • Roadmap: In the second phase, we begin to collect data pertaining to the EcoDistrict. With this data we set all of our baseline metrics, project implementation projects for the action phase, establish a long-term governance structure and a funding strategy.
  • Action: With the roadmap complete we move into the long-term implementation phase.

The High Falls EcoDistrict is currently just about at the end of the formation phase and beginning the roadmap phase, which we project to have done by 2018. Once we are fully in the implementation phase, we will be incorporating a wide variety of sustainable solutions to achieve a truly resilient urban design.
