The Boundary of the EcoDistrict
We drew the boundary to place the Falls right at the center of our EcoDistrict. The District will connect the East and West sides of the river in a collaborative effort to revitalize the High Falls area. The history and scale of this natural wonder in an urban setting is unique to Rochester. By centering ourselves on the falls, we are continuously reminded of our purpose and the natural ecosystems that serve as inspiration for our urban designs.
Neighborhoods and districts are small enough to innovate and big enough to leverage long term investment and public policy. Drawing a boundary around the High Falls EcoDistrict establishes that ideal size for accomplishing ambitious sustainability goals, while staying small enough to pilot new programs.
Districts sit at the heart of some of the most complex challenges facing city makers today, they provide a uniquely valuable scale to introduce and accelerate innovation to achieve profound improvements in equity, resilience, and climate protection.
